It can be difficult to feel hopeful when faced with the rapid destruction of the Earth’s beauty and resources. For the 2014 Westminster Art Festival (theme: “Earthcare: Reconcile, Restore, Rejoice”) I wanted to make a piece that carried a vision of healing for this wonderful planet that is our home. The constructed hanging below (made with encaustigraphic prits, thread, copper wire, painted stone) was the result. I also made a special mounting from driftwood, found metal and music wire that allows it to be hung on a wall, allowing the banner to move freely in the air. Although the exhibition displayed the work against a white wall, I love it in this photo. To me, it sends hope like a beacon directly into the heart, luminous color against the inky black.
